Jean Monnet 2 building, European Commission, Luxembourg
The new European Commission headquarters is located in the north area of the Plateau de Kirchberg. The 120,000 m² are divided into three entities in the simple shape of a U and incorporate a 22-story high-rise to the right of the Place de l’Europe. A linear area in the center of the block accommodates the common spaces while the offices are distributed around the periphery. The light, finely gridded envelope is equipped with a motorized exterior solar shading system composed of adjustable vertical aluminum blinds. From the outside, three- story-high loggias offer the image of elements hanging in the shadows of the urban landscape.
