Zenith of Algiers, Algeria
The Zenith is majestically set in a relatively underdeveloped urban area on the edge of the Bay of Algiers. Its gentle nearly circular shape equitably welcomes spectators coming from all directions, while expanding into a star-shaped layout as if under the impact of the sound waves. The entrance is strongly marked by the huge awning that shelters the outside area. Like a lighthouse, the concert hall radiates in all directions. Modulations in its latticework design create a very well adapted concert space, perfectly surrounding the rows of seating. The double ring woven in gilt tracery wraps the concert hall in a delicate halo. This enormous mashrabiya in the form of the roof filters the light and shades the garden between heaven and earth.
